Puttin' the bite on us all

These are both on the City Council agenda for Monday.

B. PUBLIC HEARING: AMENDMENT TO THE SCHEDULE OF TAXES, FEES
AND CHARGES TO ESTABLISH A NEW CHARGE FOR SEWER
FACILITIES AND DIRECT THE CITY ATTORNEY TO PREPARE AN
ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH THE FEE

7. RECOMMENDATIONS FROM OFFICERS AND DEPARTMENTS

A. City Manager

(1) RESOLUTIONS RELATED TO ORDERING THE SUBMISSION OF
MEASURE D, PASADENA UTILITY USERS TAX CONTINUATION
MEASURE, A PROPOSED ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 4.56
OF THE CITY OF PASADENA MUNICIPAL CODE TO MODERNIZE
THE APPLICATION OF THE UTILITY USERS TAX, AT THE SPECIAL
MUNICIPAL ELECTION ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2008; AND
APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR ELECTION-RELATED COSTS

Here's what I wanna know:

Is the sewer thing the first step to raising my cost?

and:

How much has my electric, water and sewer bill increased in the last five years? How much cash is in the water and power company that could be spent so my money stays in my wallet?

What happened to Pasadena having the lowest rates? Mine are going up so fast I'm gonna have to put a generator in the hamster's cage.

Why is the first resort always city fingers pickin' my pocket?

To quote Centinel: Geeezzzz!

Is the City of Pasadena under a financial emergency?!?

Did this suddenly happen?

Wow.

I have to wonder about the trade-off (our price) for accepting federal & state money.

Pasadena Pudit has posited an interesting question in my mind by his statements-and it has me thinking.

WHo knew that our city council held such marketing experts? Re. UTC ordinace (tax)re-writing the wording to alieviate "off putting" phrases. O' language!

Miss Havisham said...

This is rather disgusting, declaring an emergency, when as we sit here homes are burning up in neighboring communities really experiencing a state of emergency.

It's almost like crying wolf.

Jarvis? Bueller? Anyone?

It's a loser tax anyway, folks!

Miss Havisham said...

So, McCain's Bill is the problem. Heh.

Fees on internet access is a loser, in addition to telephone taxes. Good luck.

People are ticked off by government intervention on the internet, and invasion of privacy with regard to telephone service.

AT&T, Cingular, Comcast, etc. all under fire right now, because of submitting our phone records at request without warrants. Tapping my phone has produced a lot of boring tape!

It won't matter that the city gets the tax when the public perceives telephone/internet access providers are collecting it. It's a sad marriage City and Telephony.

I'm sorry to be posting so much, right now. You see I'm blogging while watching the city council meeting. My comments here, are of the moment.

Do you believe that the whole of our city's finanical security is resting on the passage of the UTC tax vote?

Motion is tabled for Nov. 5th or withdrawn?

It is tabled. Hmmm. Let the blogging begin!

FIB NUMBER 1. It was said at council that this was not a new tax and that nothing new would be taxed. The WHOLE TRUTH is that the whole point of "modernizing" is to make new things subject to the tax for the first time. Internet service, movies over the internet. Phone calls over the internet (VOIP). Check the modern definitions in the new ordinance. Modern definitions, new tax.

FIB NUMBER 2. Money is for public safety and other services. The WHOLE TRUTH is that none of the money is earmarked or guarnnteed for public safety. To earmark tax money it is called a "special tax" such as the library tax which requires a 2/3 vote. This is a "general tax" which requires a simple minority vote to approve it. So they are trying to snooker you into thinking the money is earmarked without having to have the 2/3 vote requirement or without having to earmark the money. Not one penny needs to be spent on public safety and the ballot language is not honest since it pretends to be something it is not.

They have to fib to us because they know better than we do. We cannot be trusted with the truth. Big Brother and Big Sister know best.
