Who's runnin'

Here's what's posted so far on the March horse race.

No odds yet for District 7, but I gotta say Clark's gonna be tough to beat since she's a name with cash.

Holden's got no competition and the guy runnin' against Gordo's not got much of a chance.

Here's the info so far:

Good luck Pasadena.

Who is Clark? I don't see a Clark that has pulled papers.

He probably means "York" - Judge Ito's wife...

Peggy York is the frontrunner followed by Hadjian in 7. We need more women on the council as we only have one woman on the council in Margaret McAustin. She came in strong and well prepared with a great resume from the planning commission and plenty of life experience. She also was strongly endorsed by Mayor Bogaard.

Endorsed by Mayor Bogaard? Is that a good thing?

McAustin seems like a yes woman to me so far. She's like Tyler she asks good qs but then votes yes like Bogus Bill wants her to.

I did mean York. Maggie Clark works in our office. Too bad she's not running.

Don't rule out Terry Tornek. I would classify Terry, Peggy and Hadjian (in that order) as the top three. Terry currently sits on the Planning Commission, has a history of being very active in Pasadena and has strong support with the historic preservationalists and slow (and no) growthers, which will translate into campaign contributions and strong support from throughout the city. While Peggy has some name recognition as being the wife of Judge Ito and police chief of the County Police, I'm not too sure how that will translate in a District race (other than campaign contributions). And the majority of her civic activities have been in Los Angeles and the County, not in Pasadena or District 7.

And remember, only the top two vote getters go on to the run-off. Peggy and Hadjian may split the women's vote. So the race within the race will be between Peggy and Hadjian. If Terry runs a strong campaign, there is a good possibility that he will face off between one of the ladies in a run-off.

Just my humble opinion at this early stage, with only a list of names on a pdf file to work with. We'll have to see how all the candidates present themselves (personality and appeal) and who runs the strongest and smartest campaign.

Dormitas, whether or not you like or agree with Bill Boggard, in Pasadena politics, being endorsed by him is a "very good thing" for any candidate.

But not for the city really.

Peggy York isn't endorsed by anyone. Her own neighbors don't like her and all her community activities have been in Los Angeles not Pasadena. She can run for police chief but as a former Internal Affairs narc she would make a terrible council member...she doesn't listen.

Tornek is the one the will be endorsed by Tyler and Bogaard.

Peggy York hasn't been "strongly endorsed by Mayor Bogaard". If Bogaard endorses anyone it will be Terry Tornek because Tornek worked with the Mayor's wife to revitalize Old Pasadena back in the early 80's.

No one said Peggy was "strongly endorsed by Mayor Bogaard". The reference above was to Councilmember McAustin.

Terry Tornek sounds like another Rafael Henderson, the former candidate in District 1. He got everyones endorsement including Bill & Claire Bogaard's and then got creamed in the election by Salazar and Robinson.

It would be nice to add another woman to the council to go along with McAustin. With York we would finally have two dedicated women who have many years of experience to add some balance to the male side.

Tornek now has the endorsement of Sid Tyler (the incumbent), Mayor (and Mrs Bogaard no doubt) and now Bill Thompson. Which basically means if you like the direction Pasadena has been headed in the last decade, Tornek is your obvious choice, especially since he is the prototypical insider as a planner, developer and now planning commissioner. However, IMHO, Pasadena is clearly headed in the WRONG direction and the wise voter in Dist 7 should look elsewhere.
